Purpose
The ITC World Wide Web site is provided as an administrative
and public service to members of the ITC and as an access point to
information regarding the information technology industry. The ITC
recognizes the importance of consistent and current content for and
about the ITC and its membership. The purpose of this document is to
establish guidelines and procedures for committees within the ITC and its
members to create information and make it accessible to the online
community.
Policy
The ITC Web Committee will be responsible for the creation
and distribution of electronic information within the ITC membership
and to the outside community, no matter what the format.
The ITC will not knowingly provide information or services contrary to
policies or procedures established by Federal, State or Local laws.
World Wide Web
The ITC Web Manager will operate a WWW server to provide a single point of internet presence called a Home Page. The ITC Home Page is being donated by the College of Information Science & Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The server will function as a hyperlink reference point, general organization information(prospecting), corporate information, marketing(brochures), and detailed membership information server for current members and members of the internet community/Information Technology Industry. Operation is 24 hours per day, with the exception of times required for server or network maintenence as conducted by UNO.
Web, Public Relations, and Marketing committees will coordinate the
registration of this server in appropriate Internet locations commonly
used to inform Internet users of server presence and availability.
It is desirable that all general interest information by and about
the ITC and is administration units be stored in digital form on the
WWW server. For user access, this library of text, graphics, sound, and
video will be accessible though hypertext links. Because of copywrite
considerations, adminstrative approval by a Web Committee member will be required before
materials are added to the server. Adding new information to this
server will be coordinated by the ITC Web Manager. Addition and modification
of content on the server will be done through secured access to the
server. Only the website maintainer will have access to
the server, thus causing all content additions and changes to be
funnelled through the Web Committee. Any questions regarding this site should
be addressed to him at the following e-mail address pvvliet@unomaha.edu.
Partnership Websites
ITC may authorize other members of the Information Technology
and Education communities to establish secondary, or partner sites
throughout the internet. These Partner Websites may develop their
Home Pages in coordination with the ITC Web Committee, provided that ITC
Web Policy and standards are followed. These sites will be
responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of content, although assistance
may be given by the ITC Web Committee.
Copyright Issues
Materials accessed from the ITC Home Page and its submenu system are in
essence 'published' on the Internet and can be read from thousands of
terminals. ITC will ensure compliance with all copyright laws and before
posting content will consider the following:
- If we intend to hold the copyright of something that we put up on
the website, we will display the word Copyright(c), the year, and the
publishers name.
- Make sure that we have permission to display text or graphics
that are owned by someone else. Beware of pictures that are scanned from
somewhere unknown to you. If we don't own the pictures, or have permission of
the owner in written or electronic form, then we won't put it
on the server.
- Programs distributed over the WWW might also be copyrighted. If we
don't own a program's copyright, we will make sure we understand its status
before publishing it on the server.
- Scanned handwritten texts, photos of texts, or a particular
typsetting might also be considered inellectual property, even when the text
is in the public domain or the Internet. If we don't own the manuscript, then
we will use an ASCII (HTML) version when publishing on the network.
